Algonquin Lakes Neighborhood Alert

Sometime between 5 p.m. Tuesday 12.01.09 and 5 p.m. Wednesday 12.02.09 a Townhome in Algonquin Lakes subdivision located on Lake Gillilan Way was burglarized.

The thieves gained entrance into the house though the back-yard patio sliding-glass door using both hands to push-up on the sliding-glass door and jarring the handle latch open. According to police, the thieves made off with jewelry, small electronics, computers and other family valuables.

What we can do:

Securing your Sliding-Glass Patio Door
Sliding-glass doors are secured by latches not locks. They are vulnerable to being forced open from the outside by pushing-up on the sliding-glass door because these latch mechanisms do not lock the door. This can easily be prevented by inserting a wooden dowel rod or cut-off broom stick into the door channel track thus preventing the sliding door form opening. Other sliding-glass door blocking devices are available such as metal fold-down sliding door blocking devices called charley bars and various other track-blockers that can be screwed down into the track.
Be a good Neighbor
Good neighbors should look out for each other. Get to know your neighbors on each side of your Townhome and the Townhomes directly across the street form you. Communicate with your neighbors and establish a friendship trust. Good neighbors watch out for each other. If you witness suspicious activity in our neighborhood call the Algonquin, IL police.
Neighborhood Watch
