Algonquin Lakes Trash Recycling Pick-Up is Every Monday
Each Townhouse is provided a 64 gallon cart for recycling. The Village of Algonquin offers collection of items for recycling at no cost. The more that you recycle the less trash you will generate, saving you money on garbage stickers. Pick-up is every Monday. Each household is entitled to one cart. A fee of $25.00 shall apply for each additional cart. Call Waste Management (800) 796-9696 if you need a 64 gallon recycling cart.
Recycling containers should be placed at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on Monday.
- Recycling must be in a Waste Management container.
- Containers of recyclables must be placed at the curb nearest the Resident's driveway and not on the grass. Placing of recycling containers on any portion of the Common Elements other than curbside is not permitted. Owners will be held responsible for any damage caused to the Common Elements.
- The Resident must remove any litter remaining on the ground after recycling pick-up.
- All recycling containers shall be returned to the Resident's garage as soon as possible after recycling pick-up. Recycling containers are to be placed out no earlier than 6 p.m. the night before the scheduled pick-up day and must be removed from the common area no later than Midnight on the day of pick-up.
Recycling Pick-up Holiday Schedule
Holiday collection will be made with a one-day delay following a holiday which occurs during the week. For example, if the holiday falls on a Monday, Tuesday pickups will be on Wednesday and so forth. The Monday pickup would not be affected. Holiday schedules are observed for the following holidays:
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
- New Year’s Day
- Memorial Day
- Fourth of July
- Labor Day
The items accepted as recycling are:
Newspaper
Any newspapers, plus inserts that come inside the newspaper, are acceptable.
Mixed Paper Products
Various types of low grade mixed papers are acceptable, including:
- Boxes - flattened and cut down to 2 feet in length/width or less.
- Boxes must be cut down and placed into the recycle container.
Any boxes placed outside the recycle container will not be picked-up. - Chipboard Boxes - i.e. cereal boxes, shoe boxes, paper tubes, soda/beer cartons.
- Telephone books, Catalogs.
- Brown Paper Grocery Bags.
- Junk Mail / Mixed Paper - all paper items delivered with daily mail.
- Glass Jars and Bottles - Food & beverage containers-clear, green, blue, brown. (Does NOT include window or plate glass, dishes, ceramics or Pyrex, light bulbs, etc.)
- Aluminum /Metal Cans - Food and beverage cans, aluminum, steel & bi-metal. (Does NOT include scrap metal).
- Plastic Bottles - Milk & water jugs, laundry & household detergent bottles. All bottles with a "#1 & #2" on the bottom, including 2-liter or other size beverage containers.
- Spent Aerosol Cans.
Containers and Other Materials
A variety of different types of containers will all be accepted for recycling including: Butter tubs, yogurt tubs, peanut butter jars, plastic bags, etc. will NOT be accepted. Bottles that contained motor oil, pesticides, or chemicals will NOT be accepted.
Preparation
All recyclables can be mixed in your 64 gallon recycling cart. All plastic, glass, and tin items must be rinsed and the caps removed and discarded. Containers may be flattened to reduce volume. No plastic bags will be accepted (such as grocery store plastic bags, newspaper plastic bags, and packaging plastic bags, etc.).
Please remove all plastic materials such as Styrofoam, packing peanuts, etc.
Using the Cart
On your pickup day, please place the recycle cart approximately three (3) feet away from your garbage container to allow access by drivers. The handles of the cart should be facing away from the street. If you move, the recycling cart must stay at the existing residence. All carts are the property of the Village and are not to be removed from the property. Do NOT mix household garbage with recyclables in the cart. The cart can be cleaned by rinsing with water and normal household soap.
